This is one section of Los Guidos--the community where Keith is ministering.
The community
is made up of Nicaraguan immigrants that settled here to escape the political
and economic
uncertainties of their own country. The settlers are squatters on the Guidos
family's land, thus
the name--Los Guidos.
The area is situated in a river valley with the shanty-homes built on the slopes.
Near the bottom
of the valley the river rises during the rainy season and on the slopes mudslides
are a common
occurrence.
When we asked one of the residence if they would ever like to return to their
country she
replied, "No, it is much better here in Costa Rica."
